Forstner bits produce flat bottomed holes.

They are the only drill bits that can drill overlapping holes, which makes them ideal when you make mortises.

You can drill the holes, clean up with a chisel, and go on the next hole.

Forstner bits also drill into angled sides vertically, making hole alignment and spacing easier than with any other drill bit.

Forstner bits don't lose temper easily, and carbide tipped Forstner bits are even sturdier.

Both work far better within clean holes,so clean out the holes when using them.

The speed of the drill you're using should be set at the lowest speed when drilling. The bigger the bit the slower you should go.

It is best to use a drill press when possible, because of the lack of speed control you get with a hand drill.

To keep your Forstner bits sharp and in good shape, clean the hole bore often.Lift the bit out of the hole about every 15 to 30 seconds to keep the hole clean.
