Chain Saw Sculpture

Chain Saw sculpture was once a form of advertisement to attract customers to purchase chainsaws from manufacturers in trade fairs and expos.

No one could have predictable then, that the then known most effective advertisement of such machine would be one of the fast-developing forms of art in the world today.

Actually, so widespread is the art that it is increasingly attracting artists in the United States, Europe in United Kingdom and Germany and even in the Far East in Japan.

The most unique thing about chain saw sculpture is that it combines two paradoxical matters: wood, the oldest canvas known to art and chainsaw, one of the modern products of human technology.

The combination of these two matters makes the art more interesting since the results are as interesting as the manner of making them.

In fact, the use of such electronic blade as tool and the speed of the artist make people brand such manner of sculpting as a “performance art”.

It is so-called as such since at times, artists perform “quick carves” in the presence of an audience, aiming the shortest time possible.

The totality of the saw dust and noise the performance creates is considered an art, just as much as the sculpture itself.

The art is distinctive because it is fast and time-economical. It cuts the work effort needed to make a sculpture in more than half the time in comparison with the use of the traditional sculpturing tools such as gouges and mallet.

Unlike ordinary blades, sculptors using chain saw uses guide bars instead, which are modified to reduce the length of the teeth so that it cuts perfectly at the bar’s edge.

It then makes the saw easier to manipulate to create the most complex details of the sculpture.

The only drawback found in the art of carving by electronic saw is that it is dangerous as the saw, when not safely used can cut through flesh and may cause extreme blood loss that may lead to death.

It is then recommended that proper precaution be taken prior to sculpturing, such as wearing protective gear for the eyes, ear, head and legs.

Despite some disadvantages, the art it produces is considered to be one of the quality products of sculpturing today.

In fact, it is so popular right now that more and more artists turn into the art.

It is simply amazing how wood and chain saw, coming from two opposite ends of a pole can produce such a lovely and fine work of art. Indeed, with limited time, it is only chain saw sculpture that can produce such magnificence and novelty.
